Avocado is very nourishing because of the high protein and fat content. A medium fruit weights 300 grams, and the caloric value for 100 grams can vary between 140 and 360 calories. It depends on the type of avocado, the age and the fat content. Avocado is easily digested because of the enzymes contained by the fruit. The peel is not eatable. The avocado fruit is full of potassium, folic acid and vitamin B6. It also contains beta-carotene, vitamins C, E, PP, magnesium, copper, iron, zinc, phosphor, pantothenic acid.

You should choose ripe avocado fruits. They are heavier and you can press them with your finger to see if they are soft. Avocado should not have any black spots or bad portions of the fruits skin. Fruits hard to the touch aren’t ripe, and the ones too soft are passed. If you have bought an unripe avocado you can let it ripen at room temperature, eventually wrapped in paper to ripen faster. A ripe avocado fruit can be kept in good condition for 2 to 3 days in the fridge. If you have cut the avocado fruit you can sprinkle the remaining part with lemon juice to make sure the pulp won’t get oxidized.

The height content in mono-saturated fatty acids helps protect your blood vessels and reduces cholesterol. A dry hair without vitality can be revitalized with the help of a avocado mask.

Even if it is a fruit you should eat a avocado as a meal and not as a dessert. You can make yourself an avocado sandwich, you can spread it like butter, a salad, steamed with other vegetables, with chicken or sea fruits. The simplest recipe is the following: cut the fruit in two, remove the pit, add some lemon juice on either half, pepper and salt and eat it out of its peel using a spoon. In Brazil avocado is eaten as a dessert with lemon juice and sugar. You could try some honey instead.
