The Vegetarian Diet is one of the oldest and most popular eating plans ever conceived. Indeed, a well-planned Vegetarian Diet can meet the needs of people of all ages, and it’s pretty easy to understand why so many people agree that adopting a vegetarian diet is an important contribution to everyone’s welfare.

Whether slimmers choose to go vegetarian for cultural, ethical reasons or simply because they want to prevent health problems, it has long been believed that a vegetarian diet is a healthier choice than a meat-based one.

Proponents of the vegetarian diet stress that you don’t need to eat foods from animals to have the nutrients you need in the diet. Plants provide enough of the essential and non-essential amino acids, protein, calcium, vitamins and minerals the human body needs.

Most vegetarian diets are low in or devoid of animal products. They are also usually lower in total fat, saturated fat and cholesterol.

Types Of Vegetarian Diet

Different people follow different forms of vegetarianism, and vegetarian diets can be further categorized into three types:

  • Vegan Diet– This diet excludes all animal flesh and animal products, including milk, honey and eggs.
  • Lacto Vegetarianism Diet– Excludes meat, fish, poutlry, as well as foods that contain them. Dairy products, such as milk, cheese, yogurt and butter are allowed.
  • Lacto-ovo Vegetarian Diet- Excludes meat, fish and pultry, but allow eggs as well as dairy product.

The Skinny

Scientists now agree to the benefits of eating a vegetarian diet, citing several important reasons. Not only do vegetarian diets have less heart disease and fewer circulatory problems, people on the vegetarian diet also tend to have fewer incidences of cancer. Slimmers who adopt a vegetarian lifestyle also tend to lose and keep off excess weight with minimal effort and without feeling like they are on a diet.
