The health benefits of Green Tea: green tea and infections

If the body has enough vitamin C, it will react with free radicals and will pull them out of the fight. Green tea does not only provide vitamin C, but it also contains flavones, which take over other functions of the vitamin, so it can be efficiently mobilized against free radicals.

In the treatment of diseases caused by the flu, green tea acts most effectively when combined with vitamin C. For a general prophylaxis, consume more vegetables and fruits that are rich in vitamin C, avoid smoking, take care that the air is clean and wet enough, and make sure you exercise enough.

• In case of an influenza infection do not drink tea that is too hot. Contrary to current opinion, this is harmful, because it dries and irritates the mucous membranes and favors the penetration of bacteria in the body. Warm tea is the most appropriate for cold, and prevents the destruction of vitamin C in lemon juice and of the substances with antibiotic properties from honey;
• In many regions of Asia, each fish food that is served in restaurants is traditionally accompanied by a cup of green tea, which acts effectively against the unpleasant odor of your breath.

Strong green tea mixed with lemon juice is stated to gargle in case of inflammation of the pharynx. With this solution you will gargle every morning and evening for two minutes. For a light disinfection of the mouth and to prevent a smelly breath also drink green tea, pure or mixed with mint leaves, it can be used to rinse and refresh the mouth.

In case of an acute inflammation of the throat or mouth, the disinfectant effect of green tea is strengthened if an infusion is mixed with a teaspoon of dry sage flowers and 5 ounces of boiling water. The broth obtained will be left for about eight minutes, and then it will be added in the green tea. With this mix you will gargle or rinse your mouth in the morning and evening. Green tea also helps external skin infections, such as those caused by fungi. Mycoses manifest by the appearance of red, scaly and itchy spots. The theanine substances in green tea strengthens the skin and increases its resistance, they are also able to destroy the fungus cells they enter in contact with.

For external use against skin fungi, green tea leaves are mixed with sage leaves in a 2:1 ratio is infused with boiling water and left for about 5 minutes. Three tablespoons of leaves are enough for 33 ounces of water. Salvia also inhibits sweating. Soak a clean napkin in the infusion, and then apply it for 10 minutes on the places affected by the fungus.

To relieve unpleasant sunburns, cold compresses with green tea are helpful. Theanine substances contained in tea keep water in the skin and thus prevent it from drying, at the same time calming and preventing pain and inflammation. In addition, vitamin C and flavones destroy free radicals formed by the action of solar radiation that can harm skin. To make a compress, mix green tea with a little cheese or yogurt and form a cream, then leave it in a cold place for a while, and then apply it on the irritated portions of the skin. Once the cream heats up, repeat the procedure once or twice. The disinfectant effect can be increased if the green tea is mixed with a little chamomile tea.

For persistent insect stings tea leaves can be applied directly on the site of the sting, after they cooled a little, then let them act. They actually calm the painful itching.
