Information on Yoga and Weight Loss

Yoga is a popular form of exercise that a lot of people, both men and women, are beginning to use as a form of stress relief and getting into better shape overall. However, one question that a lot of people have upon starting a yoga program is “Can yoga help you lose weight?” And while the short answer to this is that no, yoga does not directly result in weight loss, the real answer to this is a little bit longer and is explained below.

The main reason as to why yoga does not cause direct weight loss is the simple fact that it does not result in enough of a raised heart beat or enough cardiovascular activity to burn a significant amount of calories. And as you may be aware, it is necessary to burn a lot of calories in order to lose even one pound of weight. In fact, it takes about 3,500 of them to drop a pound, and yoga simply does not accomplish this.

However, if you have been looking to lose weight and were considering trying yoga as a way to start working out, this does not mean that you should give up on that. Yoga still has so many health benefits to offer that can get you into better shape to work out and lose weight. For example, yoga will help you de-stress, get you into a positive frame of mind, help you tone your muscles and make your stronger, and even improve your overall physical well being.

So just because yoga will not directly help you lose weight, this does not mean that the benefits you gain from doing this as exercise cannot lead to weight loss and a healthier lifestyle in the long run. So if you want to live a healthier life, try out a yoga routine today.
