Diets & Nutrition

Glucose is the main source of energy for your body. The inventor of the glycemic index and the glycemic index diet is David Jenkins, a professor at the University of Toronto. The glycemic index diet is based on the speed with which our body consumes foods to obtain glucose. If you want to lose weight you have to eat foods with a low glycemic index.

The low glycemic diet is especially recommended to those that suffer of diabetes, high blood pressure and sky high cholesterol.

The foods with a low glycemic index make you feel full. Foods with a high glycemic index make you hungrier which makes you overeat more often. Foods having a low glycemic index are vegetables, fruits and low fat dairies. All you have to do is make for yourself a meal plan made up only of low glycemic foods. You have to eat foods that have a glycemic index below 50.

In the first 3 months of dieting using the low glycemic index diet you have to be careful at the glycemic index of the carbohydrates you eat. They have to be under 50. You have to stop eating sweets.

After the first 3 months you can start eating foods that have a GI over 50. But you can eat them only accompanied with vegetables. From time to time you can make an exception and eat food with a glycemic index that is over 70.

You should never ever eat foods with a high glycemic index and fatty foods at the same time. Never combine them.

Foods with a high GI index are: potatoes (fried or boiled), white bread, boiled rice, chocolate, doughnuts, pineapples, pizza, lasagna, chips, raisins, soft drinks, fast food, junk food, sweets.

Foods with a medium glycemic index are: brown rice, whole grain bread toast, tomato – carrot – apple juice, bananas, grapes, grapefruit, orange juice, plums, whole grain cereals, apricots.

Foods with a low glycemic incex are: peppers, lettuce, beans, peas, onions, spinach, cucumbers, broccoli, leek, tomatoes, avocado, strawberries, cherries, soya, olives, dark chocolate.

Just be careful what you eat and watch the glycemic index of the foods you eat. Unfortunately if you have a low blood sugar level you will feel tired and exhausted. During the low glycemic diet you have to make sure your body has enough blood sugar to function at its full potential. I wish you good luck losing weight.
