Your body needs a periodic cleaning from time to time just as your house needs one. You have to get rid of all the wastes and toxins that have accumulated in time in your body. Even if you don’t shed more than 2 to 4 pounds, your health will only suffer beneficial results.

Before you start any detox diet you should ask the advice of your family doctor. This goes double if you have spasmophilia, chronic diseases, a weak immunity, you are pregnant or breastfeeding.

Don’t start a detoxifying diet suddenly. Your body will react fast and will start storing whatever you eat. That is a sure recipe for frustration with the final result of abandoning the detoxing diet. For a couple of days eat light meals, low in fat. Yogurt and dairies, salads, and basically lots of vegetables and fruits. Drink a lot liquids. Drink at least 8 cups of water every day to facilitate the elimination of the toxins.

Start the detox diet at the beginning of the weekend when you can stay at home and relax. If you have to do a lot of travelling or you have scheduled lots of activities that require physical effort then you should start the detoxifying diet another time.

Every morning drink a glass of lemonade to help cleans the body of toxins.

Try for a day to consume just liquids. Ideally you would consume only liquids for 2 to 3 days if possible. Drink a minimum of 8 to 10 cups of liquids per day. Besides water you can drink unsweetened plant teas, soups, compote without sugar, fresh fruit juice. Skip the sweet fizzy drinks, commercial natural juices, alcoholic beverages and those that have sugar added.

Your body will react to the toxins being eliminates thru a series of symptoms. Don’t get frighten if you get a headache, feel dizzy, without energy and your urine starts to smell really bad. The more toxins you have stored in your body the more visible the symptoms will be. Don’t stop the detox diet because the symptoms will disappear when the detox is finished.

After the liquids diet of 1 to 3 days don’t start recuperating the lost ground by eating heavy meals. Eat light foods that don’t solicit your stomach and liver. Start with soups, salads, boiled vegetables, baked potatoes, fruits. After a couple of days you can start eating the aliments you usually eat, but avoid the ones that are rich in fat or meat.

Establish one day per week when you will consume only liquids. If you are in the habit of fasting then those days can coincide. Don’t keep the liquids only day if you are having a very stressful day or you have to do a lot of physical activities. Also if you have social engagements for that day postpone the diet for a later date.

Besides the liquids only day try to eat healthy during the rest of the week also:

  • Try to eat more fresh foods that haven’t been processed. You can build yourself varied menus to keep things fresh and interesting for your taste buds.
  • Eat meat for two to three times a week and pick the low fat meats. Also you can replace meat with fish.
  • A good source of vegetable protein are nuts, peanuts, beans, and soy products.
